Oldsmar occupies the northern tip of Old Tampa Bay in northeastern Pinellas County, bordering Hillsborough County. Its name dates to 1916, when automobile pioneer Ransom E. Olds bought 37,541 acres here to build a planned community with a depot, sawmill and docks. A Mediterranean Revival building of white glazed brick stands in the downtown, and the city fronts the bay. Housing includes 1920s-era homes, established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions, townhomes and apartments.
