Tarpon Springs sits on a series of bayous feeding the Gulf of Mexico in northwestern Pinellas County. Incorporated in 1887, it was the first incorporated city in what is now Pinellas County, and the Orange Belt Railway arrived the next year. A sponge industry began here in the 1880s, and the historic Sponge Docks on the waterfront recall that trade. Housing includes historic homes, bayou and waterfront properties, established neighborhoods, townhomes and condominiums.
