Madeira Beach is a Gulf-front city in Pinellas County, bordered by the Gulf of Mexico on the west and St. Petersburg on the east. Named for the Portuguese island of Madeira, it took its modern shape after the Gale of 1848 carved John's Pass, which a bridge crossed a year later. The John's Pass entertainment district sits on the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Gulf Beaches Public Library is in the city. Housing includes beach homes, canal-front properties, townhomes and condominiums.
