Treasure Island is a city on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, between Madeira Beach and St. Pete Beach in Pinellas County. Its name dates to about 1915, when property owners staged a buried-treasure discovery to promote the island. The Great Gale of 1848 carved John's Pass at its north end, and postwar dredging created waterfront land along Boca Ciega Bay. Housing includes beach homes, canal-front properties, waterfront homes, townhomes and condominiums.
