Longboat Key is a town on and coterminous with the barrier island of the same name, south of Anna Maria Island between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The town is almost equally divided between Manatee and Sarasota counties and was incorporated in 1955. Steamships and paddle boats reached the island after a passage from Sarasota Bay to Tampa Bay was dug in 1895. Housing includes Gulf-front condominiums, bayfront and canal homes, golf course properties and townhomes.
