Venice is a city in southern Sarasota County on the Gulf of Mexico, including the area known as Venice Island, reached by bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway. City planner John Nolen created its 1920s master plan. Venice is called the Shark's Tooth Capital of the World for the fossilized teeth on its shores, and the Venetian Waterway Park trail follows both banks of the waterway. Housing includes historic homes, Gulf-front and canal properties, established neighborhoods, villas and condominiums.
