Lake Wales sits on the Lake Wales Ridge in eastern Polk County, laid out in 1911 by the Lake Wales Land Company beside Lake Wailes. Its historic downtown includes the former Atlantic Coast Line depot, now the Lake Wales History Museum, and Bok Tower Gardens lies nearby. State Road 60, U.S. 27 and Scenic Highway 17 serve the city. Housing includes historic homes near downtown, established neighborhoods, lakefront properties and newer subdivisions.
