Winter Haven lies east of Lakeland in central Polk County, about midway between Tampa and Orlando. The city counts fifty lakes within its borders, including the canal-linked Chain of Lakes begun in 1915. Its downtown, one of four historic districts, features local shops, restaurants and the Chain of Lakes Trail. Housing includes historic homes, lakefront properties, established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and townhomes.
