Lake Alfred

Citrus Research Town Among Lakes

Lake Alfred lies in north-central Polk County where U.S. 17 and U.S. 92 meet, just north of Winter Haven. Established after the South Florida Railroad arrived in 1883, it took its name in 1913 from nearby Lake Alfred. The University of Florida Citrus Research and Education Center, founded in 1917, is located here, and the Chain of Lakes Trail passes through town. Housing includes historic homes, lakeside properties, established neighborhoods and newer subdivisions.
