Bartow, the Polk County seat, sits near the headwaters of the Peace River at Lake Hancock. Known as the City of Oaks and Azaleas, it has three historic districts, including the downtown commercial district, and the 1909 Old Polk County Courthouse now houses the Polk County Historical Museum. U.S. 17, U.S. 98 and State Road 60 provide access across Central Florida. Housing includes historic homes, established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and homes on larger lots.
