Mulberry is a small city in western Polk County at the junction of State Roads 60 and 37, south of Lakeland. It grew around the phosphate industry after phosphate rock was found in the Peace River in 1886 and incorporated in 1901. The historic railroad depot houses the Mulberry Phosphate Museum, and the Alafia River Reserve offers trails nearby. Housing includes older homes near downtown, established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and homes on rural acreage.
