Auburndale, founded in 1880, lies between Lakeland and Winter Haven in central Polk County. Lakes cover more than 40 percent of the city's area, and the terrain mixes flatland with gently rolling hills. I-4 runs just north of town, the Polk Parkway offers a toll link to Lakeland, and U.S. 92 connects to Lakeland and Lake Alfred. Housing includes established neighborhoods, lakefront homes, newer subdivisions and townhomes.
