Davenport sits in northeast Polk County along U.S. 17/92, with U.S. 27 a few miles west and I-4 about eight miles north, providing access toward Kissimmee, Orlando and Lakeland. The city began in the 1880s when the South Florida Railroad reached the area and was incorporated in 1915. Its population more than tripled between 2010 and 2020. Housing includes historic homes near downtown, newer master-planned subdivisions, townhomes and vacation-style properties.
