Arcade is a small city in southern Jackson County, bordered on the north by Jefferson, the county seat. Chartered in 1909, it takes its name from early plans for an arcade-style schoolhouse. U.S. Route 129 leads toward Athens and Interstate 85, while State Route 82 heads south to Winder. Homes include single-family houses on generous lots, newer subdivisions and rural properties, with Jefferson's shops and services nearby.
