Inverness is the county seat of Citrus County, located on the western shore of the connected Tsala Apopka and Henderson lakes. The city's name is said to come from a Scotsman who thought the lakes resembled the lochs of Scotland. The Withlacoochee State Trail, built on a former rail line, runs between the chained lakes, and the historic Old Citrus County Courthouse anchors downtown. Housing includes historic homes, lakefront properties, established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and rural acreage.
