Rolling-Hill County Seat With Historic Homes

Brooksville is the county seat of Hernando County, located in the Tampa Bay metropolitan area. It was established in 1856 by merging the towns of Melendez and Pierceville. The Hernando County Courthouse anchors downtown, and the city preserves historic buildings and homes, including the residence of former Florida governor William Sherman Jennings. Chinsegut Hill, the area's highest point, rises north of the city. Housing includes historic homes, established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and rural acreage.
