South of Athens, Oconee County pairs rolling Piedmont countryside with quick access to the University of Georgia and GA-316. Watkinsville, the county seat, offers a walkable downtown, the historic Eagle Tavern Museum and Harris Shoals Park, while Bogart, Bishop and North High Shoals keep a small-town pace. Part of the Oconee National Forest lies within the county. Housing includes established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions, townhomes and homes on wooded or rural acreage.
